CFPUA's Environmental Management Department
EMD provides laboratory testing services in support of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Divisions to ensure regulatory compliance. The EMD lab is certified by the State of North Carolina. The Department also administers CFPUA's wastewater pretreatment program and drinking water cross-connection control program.
SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS
EMD also develops and implements the Safety and Environmental Management Programs for the approximately 300 employees of the CFPUA. The Safety Program ensures our staff members are properly trained to ensure a safe working environment for everyone. The Environmental Management Program establishes a management system that conforms to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard. This system encompasses a commitment by CFPUA to comply with laws and regulations, continual improvement, and prevention of pollution.
We have made a commitment to protect the environment through implementing an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS). We are currently third party certified to the ISO 14001:2015 Standard in the Operations and Maintenance divisions for the Collections and Distributions Systems, the Environmental Management Department and the Engineering Department. ISO 14001 is a voluntary standard that was developed by the International Organization for Standardization, which is a group of representatives from approximately 40 countries that work together to develop standards such as this one for EMS development and implementation. This standard provides a framework for EMS development and is based on a Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) Model.
